Aug. 4 to Sept. 8: CELTIC SPIRITUALITY FROM THE STONE AGE TO THE PRESENT
Leader: Mark Canfield, PhD.This 6-week course will meet on Friday mornings from 10-11:30 a.m.in Room 1, Pleasant Hill Community Church - UCC, 67 Church Drive, Pleasant Hill. Selected reading materials will be printed and provided by the instructor. There will be readings from ancient sources such as Pelagius and The Carmina Gadelica and from contemporary writers including John Phillip Newell, John O’Donohue, and Richard Roh . Sept. 11 to Oct. 16:  ADVANCED ENNEAGRAM STUDY: SPIRITUAL GROWTH HEALING THE PATTERN OF FIXATION TO LIVE IN ONE’S ESSENCE
Leader: Vicky Markham, PhD. This 6-week course will meet Monday mornings from 10 am – 12:00 pm in Room 1 at Pleasant Hill Community Church - UCC, 67 Church Drive, Pleasant Hill. This course will take an in-depth look at the path to growth and maturity for each of the nine Enneagram personality types, building on the introductory Enneagram course. It’s not necessary to have attended this first course, but Vicky’s handout, The Enneagram Personality System, is prerequisite reading. The handout is available to all who request it. The class will use the book, The Spiritual Dimension of the Enneagram, Nine Faces of the Soul by Sandra Maitri, and read two chapters each week. A secondary reference book, The Wisdom of the Enneagram: The Complete Guide to Psychological and Spiritual Growth for the Nine Personality Types by Don Riso and Russ Hudson, is optional reading. Click here for more information and to register.

Oct 5 to Nov 16: MUSIC OF THE SOUTHERN APPALACHIANS
Leader: Don Dowdey, retired University Library Dean and Composition and Literature instructor. This 7-week course will meet on Thursday mornings from 10 am to 12 p.m. in Room 1, Pleasant Hill Community Church -UCC, 67 Church Drive, Pleasant Hill. The music made by settlers to this region region derived from various European and African influences, including English ballads, Irish and Scottish traditional music, hymns and other sacred songs, and African-American blues. Bluegrass music originated in the region. Coal mining brought labor songs into the mix, and Appalachian music was an important part of the American folk music revival of the 1960s. The course will provide a basic introduction to this music and the major musicians who played it. There are no additional books or others expenses – the music, videos and printed lyrics will come from Don’s personal collection. Click here for more information and to register,

Oct 20 to Dec 1 (class will not meet on Nov 24):  POLITICAL PHILOSOPHY: FREEDOM AND AUTHORITY
Leader: Don Smith, BA in History, M.Div. in Theology and Philosophy. This 6-week course will meet on Friday mornings from 10-11:00 a.m. in Room 1 at the Pleasant Hill Community Church - UCC, 67 Church Drive, Pleasant Hill. As its primary source the course will use Martin Gardner’s The Whys of a Philosophical Scrivener (available on Amazon) and address such questions as "What set of beliefs should we live by? What restrictions should be imposed on our actions? What rights do we possess? How are restrictions to be formulated and implemented? What sanctions exist for those who ignore the laws of state? What do we mean by the term “state?”
